The DriveKey modchip is not just for D3 owners either, if you have recently bought a Wii and have one of the epoxy D2E drives the Wii DriveKey is also a good solution for these drives, as they don’t require access to the controller chip and are installed running off the DVD drive ribbon cable, these will essentially be a solderless solution for the epoxy D2E drives as well. With that being said, a traditional chip such as the WiiKey 2 does have some advantages over the DriveKey, first being that the WiiKey 2 will support full drive speed, where the DriveKey only supports 2x read, this won’t be a huge problem and will just cause some of the games to load a fraction slower, there is possible concern about games such as call of duty that require fast read speeds to load the textures that the drive key might not be able to keep up, but so far we have not been able to test this out, so traditional chips will load games much faster than the new method used by the DriveKey and won’t have the issue of not be able to load textures fast enough in some games, also the Wii DriveKey will not have a brick blocker function which has become quite a handy feature in the latest’s generation of chips, but for those with the new dreaded D3 drive where there is no other solutions, these DriveKey mod chips really are the best and only option and the missing brick blocker and slower loading times are better than having nothing at all, it’s not like the primary function is not there, they are just a little slower with loading and the blocker is not present, but considering the brickblockers have only really surfaced in their advanced form in the last 6-months, most people have not benefitted from it.
The only other downside to these chips over using a traditional chip would be that they are not flash upgradeable, this does mean that what you install is what you get for the life of the DriveKey, this is not such a huge issue as we saw with the first D2C chip the D2CKey was not updatable and so far there has been no reason whatsoever that they needed to be updated, but it does rule out the possibility of future features and functions being added to the Wii DriveKey, as with chips such as WiiKey 2 we have seen the ability to add new and handy functions to them and the latest advanced brick blocker was one of them, so we still take the stance that a traditional chip such as a WiiKey 2 is still the best
performer, but for those on a budget and own a new D3 drive or epoxy D2E and replacing the drive with a pre-modded drive kit is just out of the question, you will still be extremely happy using a device such as this Wii DriveKey mod chip. If you are a D2E epoxy owner you pretty much have three choices, if you’re in an area with an installer you could have a WiiKey 2 soldered in with wires, if you don’t have installers in your area you can buy a pre-modded drive pack like we sell on the site, or buy the Wii DriveKey. If you don’t have an installer in your area the DriveKey will be the cheapest option to get your console modded to play overseas games without selling your old drive on EBay to offset the costs of the pre-modded drive packs, but still the premium option would be to replace the drive and still run an traditional chip such as the WiiKey 2, being that you can sell your Epoxy D2E drive on EBay for around $70 the pre-modded drive pack still does come in cheaper than the DriveKey and does offer more function and performance for the cost. But if you are not able to sell your D2E epoxy drive, the DriveKey modchip would be more cost effective way of modding your machine if an installer is not in your area as well.

DriveKey Solderless Installation
The Wii DriveKey install is simple and safe to do, be up and running in just minutes ...
The installation process for the Drivekey is just as simple as installing any other solderless Wii mod, except with these you plug the DVD drive cable into the chip and then run a supplied cable into your Wii drive. This process does have some advantages over the other solderless chips because it does not need to clip over a controller chip to make a connection and thus will not suffer from a bad connection of vibration issues that can be found sometimes with other solderless chips. This is a totally new way of talking to the Wii and would have to be the most simple and yet reliable way to mod your Wii yourself at home, installation will take just minutes and there will be no worry about the chip coming loose due to the high quality cable clips that are used on the Drivekey chip. Simply put these would be the simplest mod chip on the market to install with the lowest chances of any issues at all due to their cable design. No longer can installers say that these are less reliable that wires.
Wii DriveKey Mod Chip Features
Packed with the features you would expect, supports all Wii drives anywhere in the world ...
The DriveKey once installed is just as simple to use as any other chip on the market, it will unlock your machine to be able to play original imported games from around the world, sometimes you can buy an original game on EBay cheaper than you can get it in your own country even after shipping, but without a chip like the DriveKey installed you won’t be able to play it, unlock the power of your Wii for imported games, homebrew applications and more. Homebrew is another important aspect of why you would want to chip your machine, the Wii DVD player software is a great example, this homebrew software will allow you to play DVD movies on your Wii which was not possible in an un-modified state, so far there is a host of homebrew applications that really expand the Wii experience. Of course you will be able to play legitimate backups of your original games as well, so no longer can the kids destroy games as you can make a backup copy for them to use and keep the original in a nice safe place.
