Buddhist meditation is the core and most important practice method of Buddhism. Because through the practice of meditation, one can heal illnesses and strengthen the body, rejoice in nourishment, prolong old age, prevent and treat many "physical diseases" of people; The temptation of, Dharma) and the troubles of the seven emotions and five desires in the heart, the spirit can be focused and peaceful, and wisdom can be generated by meditation, which can relieve people's inner troubles and inverted delusions and completely eradicate people's "heart disease". For this reason, the Chinese qigong circles call Buddhism meditation as "Buddhist Gong", which is regarded as the highest method of "Qigong".

Sitting meditation looks simple, just cross your legs and think about nothing. In fact, this seemingly simplest thing happens to be the most complicated. Not only is there a lot of practice, but the purpose is different, but the results are also very different. If it doesn't, you may get "Zen sickness." Therefore, meditation practice must meet certain requirements: 1. Observe the necessary codes of conduct (the family members observe the three conversions and five precepts, the family bodhisattva precepts; the two precepts of monks, monks and nuns; other social ethics). 2. Clean food. 3. Quiet environment. 4. Have a good instructor. 5. Temper and even prevent the five senses from being seduced by the five desires of color, sound, fragrance, taste, and touch. 6. Overcome negative psychology such as greed, hatred, lethargy, restlessness, and paranoia. 7. Reasonably adjust diet, sleep, body posture, breathing and mental state.

For thousands of years, Buddhist eminent monks have accumulated rich experience in the use of meditation for health maintenance and treatment of diseases. Among them, the Sui Dynasty wise master's exposition is the most systematic and incisive. He said under the volume of "Practice the Method of Zen Meditation": "If the husband can use his mind well, the four hundred and four diseases will naturally be cured." He concluded that there are nine methods:

1. The umbilical cord is as big as a bean, and it can cure various diseases, and it can also cause various meditations, because the breath flows from the umbilicus and returns to the umbilicus. When entering the fetus, the strap is tied to the umbilical cord, which is the source of the stomach and intestines.

2. Such as full upper pneumothorax, pain in both hypochondria, urgent back arm, shoulder well pain, heart-felt pain, annoyance and inability to eat, cold under the navel, hot at the top and cold at the bottom, yin and yang discord, and gas cough, etc., can be used to guard the pubic area Method of treatment. Because "the dantian is a sea of qi, can swallow all diseases". If Zhixin Dantian still feels pain, you can move the Xinzusanli point. If you can't stop, you can move your heart to the horizontal lines of the thumb nails of both feet to heal.

3. Between the feet of the heart edge, it can cure seven diseases such as headache, red eyes, hot lips, herpes, sudden abdominal pain, deafness, and strong neck.

4. Always keep your heart in your feet, can cure all diseases. Because we usually use our brains a lot, "Qi rushes through the internal organs and becomes sick." If the heart is like a border, the five internal organs will be smooth and digestion will be enhanced, and all diseases will heal by themselves.

5. If there is a disease in the body, the whole heart will stop at the disease. If there is no special obstacle, it can be cured within three days.

6. Don't think about illness, but quietly stopping the heart and being happy can also cure the illness.

7. Partial use of exhalation can treat diseases such as heavy swelling, barren body, fullness of phlegm, poor diet, abdominal pain and dysentery. Partial use of income can cure diseases such as aversion to cold and strong heat, all branches and joints, body suspension, lung closure and swelling, vomiting and shortness of breath.

8. Blow, exhale, hee, heh, hush, four or six kinds of breath (or qi) to cure diseases of the five internal organs. The relationship between the six types of breath and the viscera is "The heart is associated with the kidney, the genus of blowing, the spleen, the lungs and the pharynx are known to all, the liver is hot to boo, and the three Jiao suffocates but the words are hee." (commonly known as Liu Zi Jue)

9. Upper breath treats heaviness, lower breath treats deficiencies, full breath treats barrenness, Jiao breath treats swelling, increasing breath treats loss, reduces bad breath to disperse the vagina, warm breath treats cold, cold breath treats heat, and breath To treat congestion and obstruction, the crux of swelling and poisoning, to treat the restlessness of war, to treat the disharmony of the four major (earth, water, fire, and wind) with the rest, to replenish the interest and replenish deficiency. Make good use of these twelve breaths to cure all sufferings.

Why is meditation important for health preservation? We can explain it from the viewpoint of Chinese medicine. For example, the "Huang Di Nei Jing", a sacred classic of Chinese medicine, says: "Tranquil and emptiness, the true qi follows it; the spirit is guarded, and the disease is always safe!" ("Suwen·Ancient innocence") "("Suwen · Comment on Fever") "Righteousness is inside, and evil cannot be done." ("Suwen · On the Method of Needling") illustrates the importance of spiritual stability, harmony and righteousness in fighting disease and prolonging life. . Buddhism "Qigong" can nourish one's emotions, be spiritually guarded, calm and empty, so as to maximize the body's self-regulation, regeneration and immunity capabilities.

In ancient times, the eminent monks who lived long were mostly Zen masters. Although they were very frugal in food and clothing, had poor medical conditions, and even lived and sleep all year round, they were full of energy and full of "Zen pleasures and joys", so they could enjoy the whole life. The modern monk Xuyun Zen Master (former honorary president of the Chinese Buddhist Association) can be said to be an ascetic monk who spent his entire life sitting in meditation, meditating in temples, and lived 120 years. Master Xuyun’s Master Gao Zubenhuan is currently the abbot of Shenzhen Hongfa Temple and the chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Chinese Buddhist Association. He lived a frugal life and insisted on meditation and chanting (also a method of meditation) all year round. At the age of 103, he was still able to see clearly and walked easily. He often traveled all over the country to build temples, preach precepts, and give lectures. Another disciple of Zen Master Xuyun, Master Miaozhi (common name Cai Songcang), was born on December 28, 1888 in Guloulou District, Fuzhou City. In 2000, he was rated as the "Fifth Century Healthy Elderly in China" and ranked first. On the 28th of the first lunar month of this year, he died peacefully at the Xiangguang Nian Buddhist Hall in Zhangzhou, Fujian. He had a lifetime of 116 years. He summarized his health regimen during his lifetime as: "Sanqin, Sanjing, Santan, and Sanle."

Referred to as diligence of brain, hands, and feet: "three quiets" means meditation, calmness, and quiet walking; "three calms" is to belittle power, money, and forget age; "three joys" are to help others be happy and content to be happy , Enjoy yourself. His way of health preservation is inseparable from his meditation philosophy and practice.

In short, the practice of meditation by countless eminent monks has proved that life lies not only in sports (athletes are strong, but there are few longevity), but also in "lending the soul and being quiet." The concepts and methods of Buddhist meditation are one of the secrets of Buddhist health. Through meditation, people can fully mobilize the huge potential of their own body and mind, so as to achieve the purpose of curing illness and strengthening the body, comforting the feelings, and prolonging the old age.
